Honeymoon car sold $ 233,700

A postwar Japanese toy known as the "Honeymoon Car" sold for a staggering $233,700 at Morphy Auctions in Pennsylvania (USA). To put it into perspective, the base price for a 2026 Tesla Roadster sports car is expected to be in the vicinity of $200K-$225K. The Honeymoon Car sold for all that and more.

An extraordinarily rare toy with a robot driver and robot passenger, it is possibly one of only two known that retain their original pictorial boxes. Some say the car's design appears to have drawn most of its influence from American convertibles of the 1956-1961 era. It has a large grille, tailfins, and a "tinted" blue windshield. Its box is especially beautiful, with a background scene that resembles Chicago's Lake Shore Drive (see thumbnail at bottom).

The Honeymoon Car received 37 bids before selling for nearly three times its high estimate to an American buyer.
